Problem Summary

When you paste a website link into a text message on iPhone, the Messages app will try to provide a preview of the linked page. The original link is not displayed.

This is a problem when an easy short-URL is being shared. Many organizations and companies use easy to read and remember short URLs.

Some short URLs are used for tracking and referral payouts. If a person lands on the resulting page, and copies the link from that page, it may disable functions with future use and sharing.

Problem Solution

When pasting a web link, be sure to put a period at the end and that will disable the page preview for that shared link. The recipient of the link will not see the period at the end.

Alternate Option

A recipient of a link with preview, on an iPhone (or iPad), can press and hold the preview image to reveal the original shared link.

Conclusion

The above is a bit of a cryptic non-intuitive work-around. Hopefully, in the future, there could be a tap-hold gesture for the sender to enable or disable the website preview option. It would also be nice to have the option to turn off the preview feature in Settings.
