Summary

If you are a Mediacom user and have an MCHSI email address, you may have trouble using Microsoft Outlook to retrieve your messages. There can also be issues using Windows Mail. Apple iPhone and iPad may have trouble working with MCHSI. This is why most people use the web interface to access their Mediacom MCHSI emails. The web portal is at: https://mail1.mediacombb.net

This document offers some other considerations and options regarding Mediacom email service, such as how to continue using Outlook to access your MCHSI emails.

Please review the entire document to understand all of your options before starting on any steps. If you want to save time, consider skipping ahead to Option #3 below. It’s usually the best option.

OPTION #1 — Using Google Gmail to Access MCHSI

Despite numerous problems with most email clients, it is possible to quickly, easily, and reliably have your Gmail account retrieve your MCHSI emails by following these steps:

  1. Go to Gmail > Settings > Accounts and Import [Click to View]
  2. On the Accounts and Import page, next to “Check mail from other accounts” click on the option to add a mail account.
  3. Provide your MCHSI email address and password.
  4. Google will begin checking your MCHSI emails and you can automatically check for new mail periodically. The new message can be automatically labeled and easily identified in your inbox.

NOTE: This will only retrieve the recent emails in your MCHSI inbox and new ones that arrive. This process will not import your MCHSI email folders or contacts.

If you configure Gmail to retrieve your messages, there may be delays in retrieving emails. Gmail will only periodically check for new messages.

OPTION #2 — Sending from Gmail as MCHSI

You can always use the web portal to occasionally send messages from MCSHI. However, if you plan to regularly send and receive emails using the MCHSI address, and are only using Gmail as your preferred mail client, then you can configure Gmail to send messages as MCHSI by following these steps:

  1. Go to Gmail > Settings > Accounts and Import [Click to View]
  2. For the “Send mail as” option, choose “add another email address.”
  3. Configure your Gmail account to have the ability to send as MCHSI. This is different than the instruction above that refers to retrieving MCHSI emails.
  4. You will have an option to “Reply from the same address the message was sent to” or you can set a default address that you want to always use.

If the above steps are completed, you should be able to use Gmail as your email client.

OPTION #3 — Forwarding Emails from MCHSI

To avoid delays in receiving messages, it is better to have new MCHSI email messages immediately forwarded to your Gmail account by following these steps:

  1. Go to the MCHSI webmail portal and login here https://mail1.mediacombb.net
  2. Go to the Preferences tab.
  3. In the left column of options, click on Mail.
  4. On the right under the heading “Receiving Messages” you can configure message forwarding by entering an email address to automatically forward all new emails to. In this example, you would use your Gmail address here.
  5. If you want to avoid having your MCHSI inbox filling up over time, select the box to “Remove local copy of message.” This way, new messages will no longer collect in your MCHSI inbox. They will only be in your Gmail account.

Now You Can Use Outlook

If you configure your MCHSI emails to automatically forward to your Gmail address (Option #3 above), you will be able to use Outlook with your Gmail account to access your MCHSI emails, even though a direct connection from Outlook to MCHSI isn’t possible.

In other words, you will now use Outlook to access Gmail, which is where your MCHSI emails will be.

This configuration will also dramatically improve your ability to check your MCHSI emails from your iPad, iPhone, and Android devices. This is because Gmail is used by more than one billion people around the world, and thus has become a standard.

When you setup an account on most devices, you will notice that Gmail is typically available as an option with easy setup. This makes it easy to setup Gmail for Outlook.

Many people prefer using Outlook because of the variety of features available, and the ability to store a local archive of emails on your computer.

Consider Having People Use Your Gmail Address

Whenever people change Internet service providers, they are stuck with the dilemma of not having access to the email address from their old Internet service provider. For this reason, it’s best to use an ISP independent email service provider like Gmail, Yahoo, AOL, or a Microsoft Outlook email address. This also gives you and those you communicate with a more direct and reliable address to use.
