Summary
These two link options provide easy access to the old and new versions of Yahoo! Mail:
- BASIC — The old classic “Basic” Yahoo! Mail inbox can be viewed using this link — https://mail.yahoo.com/b/
- STANDARD — The new “Standard” Yahoo! Mail inbox can be viewed using this link — https://mail.yahoo.com/n/inbox/priority
- STANDARD ALL — The default starting point with the new mail system is the “Priority” view which may, unfortunately, not actually show some important emails. Many people will prefer to see “All” mail. To start in the All Mail view, use this link — https://mail.yahoo.com/n/inbox/all
You can save any of the above pages (views) using the Favorites / Bookmarks feature of your browser.
Email Client App / Software
Many people use email software to check their messages from one or more services. This makes it possible to check multiple accounts in one place. It can also provide a better experience. New Windows computers should have Outlook For Windows — a simplified version of the full Microsoft Outlook software. A free email program called Thunderbird is available from Mozilla.
Email software works well as an alternative to the web-based interface, or as an additional way to check emails. Software can typically allow for emails to be stored and backed up to a local computer drive, providing some protection and reassurance to avoid losing emails if your account gets compromised, deleted, or purged for some reason.
Yahoo! Mail — $5 Per Month Plan
It is highly recommended that you consider upgrading to the $5 per month paid Yahoo! email plan as described on this page — https://www.yahoo.com/plus/mail?ncid=100001464
On that page, when you scroll down, you’ll see with the paid plan you get:
- No Ads
- 5TB of storage
- Emails are retained even if there is inactivity
- Forwarding to another email service (if you are moving to a new provider)
Those are just a few of the features and benefits of the paid plan. For now it seems that Yahoo! will continue to offer free email, but there could be potential problems or limitations with using the free service.
UPDATE: 15 March 2025
The option to switch back to the old classic “Basic” Yahoo! Mail was removed about one week after this article was posted. It seems that Yahoo! desires that everyone use the new system.
As of 15 March 2025, the links above still work to switch between the views.
Specifically, to get to the old classic “Basic” Yahoo! Mail, you can use this link — https://mail.yahoo.com/b/
If you are composing an email using the old system, you might notice that no formatting options are available such as Bold, Italics, etc. So, only simplistic basic text is available.
Many thanks to everyone who has called and emailed expressing gratitude for this help guide.
